If you didn't know by now we are a little obsessed with Mihlali Ndamase, who is an absolute Goddess in all rights.
She is a South African Makeup artist and Youtube content Queen that is empowering women with her makeup artistry.
We decided to ask her a few Q & A's on what style and success means to her.
What inspired you to go into the makeup and beauty Industry?
My love for the beauty industry started at the age of 15 when I discovered makeup tutorials on YouTube. I remember watching Michelle Phan’s Barbie makeup tutorial, and I fell in love. It soon became something I saw myself venturing into and doing, because even in junior school I used to watch my mom do her makeup and I would steal her lipsticks longing for a makeup collection of my own. Once I got comfortable doing my own makeup with the help of a makeup course, I found myself longing to do more with my skills and that’s when I decided to make a career out of this.
What makes you feel like an absolute Goddess?
What makes me feel like a Goddess is definitely a good face beat, and a killer outfit. I’m all about being comfortable, because that way I believe I’ll be confident. I believe in that taking care of yourself as a person increases your confidence level.
What 3 beauty products can you not live without?
3 beauty products I cannot live without:
False eyelashes, I don’t believe in makeup without lashes.
Nude lipstick, I’m such a nude girl! I love how versatile nude lips are you can darken them with a brown lip pencil, or add a soft pink lip-gloss on top for a daytime natural look.
My urban decay makeup setting spray I cannot do without!
Describe your typical fashion style?
My day-to-day sense of style is definitely more comfortable, and very street style. I am a full-time student and I work part-time so I’m constantly up and down. I barely wear high heels, I actually live in sneakers believe it or not. I’m such a sneaker head.
Who is your beauty icon and why?
I can’t say that I have one beauty icon, because that would be a lie. I am so inspired by various women in the beauty industry mainly YouTube content creators such as MakeupShayla, Aaliyah Jay, SandraDeLuxe, TymeTheInfamous and many more. I have been watching some of these ladies for the longest time so their journey and progress really inspires me. I’ve seen them work with some of the biggest makeup brands globally on collaborations so it goes to show that perseverance and hard work is key.
Do you have any piece of advice for young South African girls on a similar journey as yours?
My advice to young ladies that want to start their own business be it in the beauty or fashion space is to work hard for what you love, and believe in what you do. Believe in yourself and be your biggest supporter, because if you don’t believe in yourself who will? Also you should never let anyone tell you otherwise about your dreams. It wont be easy, and success doesn’t come easy but once you see the light at the end of the tunnel you’ll become 10x more motivated and excited about what you do.
